There's a nervous wait ahead for workers at Intel as they wait to discover the full extent of job losses.
5,500 people work for the company in Ireland with the majority of the job losses expected at their European headquarters in Kildare.
Intel is expected to brief some staff this evening. The company is restructuring to move away from selling computer chips for PCs. Instead it will focus on more profitable industries.
Intel is cutting 12,000 jobs worldwide and that will affect Ireland, but is says that the plants in Leixlip, Cork and Shannon remain essential to the future of the company.
Some staff are reportedly being briefed this afternoon - however it could be days before the full extent of the job losses are known.
