Injured and sick wildlife including a bat, an otter and three swans are being treated at Ireland's first wildlife hospital.
The Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland facility opens tomorrow in the grounds of pub in Co. Meath which is closed due to the pandemic.
Stables at the back of the Tara Na Rí pub on the outskirts of Navan, have been converted for animals and birds that are injured, sick or orphaned, while an intensive care unit has been set up in a portacabin.
The temporary hospital comes after years of campaigning from the WRI for a national wildlife hospital.
The charity says the creation the facility is in response to an overwhelming increase in wildlife casualty numbers during the pandemic.
Wildlife Rehabilitation Ireland has secured an initial 12-month lease for the hospital and it will be run by a team of volunteers.
