Ireland is pledging one million euro in emergency aid to the relief effort in the Philippines.

Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign affairs Eamon Gilmore announced the funding in the wake of Typhoon Haiayan.

It's believed that at least ten thousand people have died in the powerful storm system, which made landfall in the country on Friday.

The aid will be made available through Irish NGOs, and will go towards shelter, food, water and health.

Carin Van Der Hor is the country's director of charity Plan International - she thinks the death toll will rise.
