Gardaí say they'll be "intensively" targeting speeding drivers over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Nearly 45,000 fixed charge notices have been issued so far this year - up by over 16% on 2013.
Gardaí say they've clocked some drivers travelling at twice and even three times the speed limit in some cases - and are particularly worried about the increase in incidents in urban areas.
Assistant Garda Commissioner John Twomey says officers will be out in force this weekend to keep drivers in check.
