Intel has confirmed an outbreak of Covid19 at its site in Leixlip in Co Kildare, which is believed to include 70 positive cases.
The company says it was informed by its main construction contractor that a number of people working at the site had tested positive for the virus over the weekend.
In a statement, Intel says the number of cases is approximately 70, 'but it is a fluid situation'.
The company says contact tracing was carried and any other workers who may have been exposed have been required to self-quarantine.
Additional testing is being carried out at the site and any affected areas will under go deep cleaning and disinfection.
A spokesperson for Intel says: "Our main contractor is actively working with the relevant Public Health authorities and follow up testing has resulted in further positive cases being identified.
"We are working to support our construction team in whatever way we can - to understand what has happened in this situation and how it can be addressed with corrective measures.
"Workers at the construction site have been informed of the situation."
