An investigation is underway following concerns over standards at a care centre for people with an intellectual disability.
Ten members of staff have been suspended at Stewarts Hospital here in the city. If follows complaints by students from Trinity College who were on an placment at the centre which provides on-site and community based services for 300 residents and some 600 'children and adult' day attenders.
The students claimed some nurses and care staff were not closing doors when clients were showering; some clients were locked out of their bungalows; and some were being spoken about as if they were not present.
A report in the Irish times quotes a spokesperson for Stewarts Care Ltd confirming that allegations had been made - it said it was working with HIQA to address that and an external investigation team has been put in place.
It's understood the claims relate to a period extending from late 2012 into the early part of 2013.
Inclusion Ireland - the umbrella group for people with intellectual disabilities says the allegations and number of staff suspended, raise disturbing questions.
