A laneway in Dublin's city centre could be closed to the public following complaints from local businesses.
Habour Court, a small pathway off Abbey Street has become infamous for drug use and prostitution.
Local councillors say the closure of the laneway highlights the severe shortage of policing in the inner city.
At a meeting of Dublin City Council Cllr Christy Burke said the lane has become a "dangerous place to be".
North Dublin Councillor Janet Horner says anti-social behaviour will continue if nothing is done to deal with the root of the problem.
"The long-term holistic solutions to these problems are not with the guards. They are with the education structures, the antipoverty structures, youth diversion structures, and investment in sports and social activities for inner city communities that we see such marginalisation and deprivation within. If we properly want to address these, we need to look at a much wider range of solutions than just investment in the Garda."
The plan has not been finalised and the council are looking for the public's input on the closure.
Love Our Laneways
A campaign to improve Dublin's inner city will come into effect in the Autumn.
Love Our Laneways will see small lanes in the city centre revamped to help bring the areas back into use.
Cllr says it will be hugely beneficial to the area
"The laneways are a huge asset for the city. Overall, they can be, full of character and full of life in different ways.
There is a Love Our Laneways project, which is up and going. And I know in the autumn the council will be doing some work on,
for example, Coal Lane and Talbot Lane in the inner city area - trying to really improve those places.
Bring in better greening, better lighting, better murals, and a bit of passive surveillance."
