A male inmate was found dead at Mounjoy Prison in the early hours of this morning.
Gardaí say they were alerted, the Coroner has been notified and a post-mortem exam is expected to take place on the body, the results of which will determine the course of the investigation.
All deaths in custody’s are investigated by the Irish Prison Service, the Inspector of Prisons and An Garda Síochána, where circumstances warrant.
The cause of death will be determined by the Coroner’s office.
The Irish Prison Service says the prisoner's next of kin have been notified.
