Cash incentives and remote working hubs are part of a new plan to get people to relocate from cities to rural areas.
The Government is to launch it's 'Our Rural Future' five year plan this afternoon.
State-funded relocation grants and tax incentives for remote working are to be introduced by the Government to lure workers from cites to rural towns and villages.
The Minister for Rural Development Heather Humphreys says the pandemic has presented a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
€1bn will be spent on converting vacant buildings in towns and villages into 400 remote-working hubs with high-speed broadband.
The Government says it will lead by example, with a target to have 20 per cent of civil servants working remotely on a permanent basis by the end of the year.
Priority will also be given to areas outside Dublin for the location of new headquarters or buildings for Government departments and other State bodies.
