The Property Tax is back in the spotlight - with claims a new blunder is stalling house sales - because buyers and sellers arguing over who has to pay for 2014.
The latest confusion centres around who actually owns the house when the tax is due...
Sellers finalising deals now, say they shouldn't have to pay for 2014 because they won't own the house - while buyers are claiming they're exempt from the tax for the first three years so shouldn't have to pay either.
The sale can't actually go through until the tax bill is sorted - and a report in this morning's Irish Independent claims the backlog will affect more than 4,000 house-sales in the last two months of the year - hitting the housing market badly, just as it's beginning to recover.
