With less than a week to go until most schools re-open, it's emerged there are currently 413 vacancies in classrooms.
Over 50% of them are in Dublin.
Yesterday, there were 378 classroom vacancies in Irish secondary schools and when Special Needs Assistants (SNA) are included, that figure rose to 413.
The ASTI says the majority of second-level schools have at least one teacher vacancy just a week before the new term begins, with claims that some schools are finding it 'almost impossible to fill certain posts.
Principal of Pobalscoil Neasáin in Baldoyle, Pat McKenna, says the capital is becoming unaffordable to live in for many teachers;
"It is something that is country-wide but it is exacerbated in Dublin. The cost of living within Dublin, the cost of rental, the cost of travel are making it much more attractive for teachers to move out of the city or maybe not even move in in the first place."
