Hundreds of people are expected to apply for cost rental homes in CityWest this afternoon.
The homes are being made available under the Land Development Agency An Tosaigh scheme and will be at prices below the market rate..
The homes will be almost 60 per cent below current market rates with rents starting at 1,350 euro for a three bed.
Prospective candidates can't have a net income over 53 thousand euro or they can't be receiving any social housing supports.
Only 22 homes are available to apply for today and the successful candidates will be picked by lottery.
It comes at a tough time for renters with huge rents and the eviction ban due to end at the end of the month.
Meanwhile, tax breaks for renters and landlords are being described as "too little, too late".
They're among the measures being introduced by the government, to address the fall-out from the lifting of the eviction ban.
Estate agents Sherry Fitzgerald says 21 thousand landlords have left the market in the last 12 months alone.
Managing Director at Sherry Fitzgerald, Marian Finnegan, says emergency measures are needed to stop the exodus of landlords right now, not in the weeks and months ahead.
''What we need is a measure that will actually tell the landlords that over a period of time, not just this year, but let's over a three to five year period that their tax position will improve significantly- that may stop half of them or a portion of them leaving the market place. Surely retiaing what we have in terms of available accommodation, is the first thing we should do.''
