A Dublin maternity hospital has secured a High Court order allowing it to withdraw life support from a day old baby boy with severe brain damage.
The ruling followed a late night sitting of the court.
The High Court heard the young mum underwent an emergency c-section on Tuesday.
She 39 weeks pregnant and her son was born severely brain damaged and placed on life support.
The woman suffered a heart attack and died after being transferred to another hospital.
Because the mother was the boy’s sole legal guardian the hospital was required to seek a court order to withdraw his life support.
The president of the High Court President Nicholas Kearns agreed to make that order following a late night sitting last night.
