The homecoming for Ireland's Olympians will take place in front on the GPO next week.

Dublin City Council is hosting the event on O'Connell Street at half 12 next Monday afternoon.

Block Rockin’ Beats DJ Dec Pierce will entertain the crowds and celebrate Ireland's most successful ever Olympics Team.

In a statement the council says: "Dublin City Council would like to invite everyone to a public homecoming reception for Team Ireland on Monday 12th August as they return from Ireland’s most successful ever Olympic Games.

"The event will take place in front of the GPO, beginning at 12.30pm. It is fully free to the public and everyone is welcome to attend. Tickets are not required to attend, so come along to O’Connell Street on Monday afternoon with family and friends and help give our wonderful team the homecoming they deserve.

"This is the first time the Irish Olympic Team have received a civic reception on their return home and the event has been planned in conjunction with the Olympic Federation of Ireland.

"There will be entertainment provided on the afternoon by Block Rockin’ Beats DJ Dec Pierce to get the crowd going before the Irish team takes to the stage.

"Team Ireland have won seven medals so far at Paris 2024; four gold across four different sports, and three bronze. This is Ireland’s most successful ever Olympics Team and it being the 100 year anniversary of Irelands first participation in the Olympics makes it even more special."

Pride

Lord Mayor of Dublin James Geoghegan says: "We’ve all enjoyed watching the Irish Athletes do us proud in Paris. Now is our chance to tell them in person just how proud we are of them.

"I have no doubt their efforts will have inspired lots of girls and boys all over the city and country to try and be like them some day. So come along to O’Connell St on Monday and let's give the Irish Team a welcome home to remember!"

Team Ireland Chef de Mission Gavin Noble says: "Over the past few weeks our athletes have performed outstandingly, and have inspired the nation with their endeavours at the Olympic Games in Paris. We are really proud of each and every one of them, and we would like to thank Dublin City Council for hosting such a special event to honour them."

Transport

Dublin City Council is asking people to use public transport when travelling to and from the event, which is a family-friendly, alcohol-free event.

Luas Green Line services will be suspended between Dominic and St. Stephen’s Green Luas Stops from 09.30am until 10.00pm to facilitate the event. Luas Green Line services will run between Broombridge and Dominic Luas Stops, and from St. Stephen’s Green to Brides Glen Luas Stops only during this time.

The Luas Red Line services will be suspended between Smithfield and The Point stops from 09:30am until 10:00pm.

Valid Luas tickets will be accepted on Dublin Bus.

Buses will be diverted from O'Connell Street from 10.00am and will re-commence on the north side of the street at 5.00pm and on the south side of the street at 10.00pm.

Members of the public are asked to enter O'Connell St. from the O'Connell Bridge end.
