Audis, Mercs and BMWs are amongst the high powered cars seized last year over drivers not paying their M50 tolls. According to figures in the Irish Times today, 59 vehicles in total were impounded in 2015.
The move by eFlow is part of a clampdown on toll-dodgers. The average amount owed to the state-owned company was €28,627.
In January that year an Audi A4 was one of four cars impounded in the Clondalkin area. It was seized on foot of a court judgement for €1,593. In April a BMW was collected by the sheriff in Blackrock over a judgement of €10,706 and in August a Mercedez Benz in Tallaght was amongst those seized for a similar amount.
Over the summer a Toyota Corolla was seized in Santry on foot of a €15,277 bill while in December a Nissan Primastar was taken after clocking up €1,600. The owner had money outstanding on a previous vehicle.
Eflow says the court summons is the latest enforcement tool used to go after those who repeatedly refuse to pay their tolls. Convicted drivers face fines of up to €25,000, and failure to pay that can result in time behind bars.
