Herbal Cannabis Worth €450,000 Seized At Dublin Airport

A woman in her 30s has appeared in court after 22.5 kilos of herbal cannabis was seized at Dublin Airport.

Revenue officers found €450,000 worth of drugs in the baggage of a passenger who flew in from LA.

The illicit drugs were discovered on Friday with the help of detector dog, Blue.

Investigations are ongoing.

A garda spokesperson says: "On Friday 22nd September 2023 An Garda Síochána provided assistance in the seizure of approximately 22.5kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €450,000 at Dublin Airport.

"The illicit drugs were discovered when our partners in Revenue and detector dog, Blue, stopped and searched the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked a flight from Los Angeles.

"An Garda Síochána arrested a woman in her 30s who was taken to a Dublin Garda Station, where she was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. This person has since been before the courts. "Investigations are ongoing."

A Revenue spokesperson says: "On Friday (22/09/2023), as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of detector dog Blue, Revenue officers seized approximately 22.5kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €450,000 at Dublin Airport.

"The illicit drugs were discovered when Revenue officers stopped and searched the baggage of a passenger who had disembarked a flight from Los Angeles.

"An Garda Síochána arrested a woman in her 30s who was taken to a Dublin Garda Station, where she was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996. This person has since been before the courts.

"This seizure is part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the importation of illegal drugs, with the assistance of An Garda Síochána. If businesses or members of the public have any information regarding smuggling, they can contact Revenue in confidence on 1800 295 295."
