The Department of Health is to investigate tweets speculating when abortion appointments have been booked.
The Health Minister has described it as "despicable" and says it is inciting harassment of women and medical professionals.
It’s after the economist, Professor Ray Kinsella claimed an abortion was to be carried out in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda this morning.
An anti-abortion protest is taking place outside the hospital today.
Simon Harris says the online commentary is unacceptable.
"It's offensive, and I don't think it is in any way reflective of the way the large majority of people in this country feel", he said.
Minister Harris described the speculation and sharing of appointment times as "an attempt to drag us back to a pre-repeal place".
"That is one place we are not being dragged back to", he pledged.
