The head of Dublin city council has questioned the suitability of build-to-rent apartment blocks.
They're becoming the dominant source of social housing provided by developers in the city according to new figures.
As part of a response to submissions on the council's new development plan, DCC Chief executive Owen Keegan says he's concerned about Build-to-rent schemes and how suitable they are as long-term homes for social housing tenants as they don't have to meet minimum standards on size and mix of apartments.
Analysis by DCC has found BTR will make up almost 80 per cent of developer-provided social housing within two years, coming from a base of zero in 2016 according to the Irish Times.
The data that looked at build-to-rent applications since the start of 2018, showed virtually no three-bed or family units have been proposed or permitted.
Mr Keegan is recommending to councillors that they push on with restrictions on the housing model as set out in DCC's new development plan.
