Almost half of Dublin voters want a directly elected mayor for the city.
The results of a new poll show the level of frustration at the decision by a small group of councillors to block the vote.
A new Millward Brown survey shows that 47 percent of voters believe those living in Dublin should pick their own first citizen.
19 percent are against the idea, with 34 percent saying they didn't know.
The survey also identified several local issues of concern for Dublin residents.
40 percent of voters said they feel less safe in their community from crime compared with two years ago.
The poll also shows 70 percent said they feel that the proceeds of the property tax should be retained by local councils.
