Despite opposition from locals, Google has been granted permission for a rooftop sports pitch near Grand Canal Dock in Dublin.
The open-air enclosure is to be built on the 5th floor of the tech giant's new office block on the site of the former Boland's mill on Barrow Street.
According to the Herald, the 220 square metre pitch will be surrounded in netting and used for activities like football, volleyball and fitness classes.
A separate outdoor seating area for the top of an adjoining office block was also given the green light.
The Shelbourne Park Residents Association had raised concerns about the impact of the lighting system and noise on locals homes. They were also worried the space would be used for night time events.
However city council officials say the lights would less bright than typical outdoor pitches. It has banned loudspeakers from the rooftop areas and has also limited the operating hours.
