There has been anger in Mexico after it became apparent that a young girl who was believed to be trapped under the rubble of a collapsed school never actually existed.
Search efforts are continuing across Mexico City after Tuesday's 7.1 magnitude earthquake that left more than 270 people dead.
Much of the national & international attention in recent days was focused on at the Enrique Rebsamen school, where at least 25 people - including 19 children - died.
11 children had been pulled from the rubble, and it was widely reported that a 12-year-old girl named 'Frida Sofia' was still alive under the rubble.
News channels broadcast round-the-clock coverage of the rescue effort, amid claims that Frida Sofia had made contact with schoolmates and had wiggled her fingers.
However, doubt began to be cast on the story as it emerged that there was no 'Frida Sofia' registered at the school.
On Thursday afternoon, rescue workers confirmed that all children had been accounted for - although work was continuing to see if there was an adult, potentially a female staff member, still trapped.
Navy official Angel Enrique Sarmiento stated: “We want to emphasise that we have no knowledge about the report that emerged with the name of a girl.
“We never had any knowledge about that report, and we do not believe - we are sure - it was not a reality.”
The revelation prompted shock & anger, with popular TV anchor Carlos Loret de Mola tweeting: "The federal government always told us there was a girl and that they were about to rescue her. Now they changed the version. Outrageous."
Mexican media highlighted a similar story that took place in the aftermath of the devastating 1985 earthquake in Mexico, when it was reported a young boy was trapped. It transpired that boy never existed.
