Gardaí have arrested Gerry "The Monk" Hutch on suspicion of organised crime offences.
The 58 year-old was detained early yesterday morning at Wheatfield prison in Dublin.
The Irish Daily Star reports he was taken from his cell and brought to a garda station for questioning on suspicion of directing a crime gang.
It's connected to allegations that criminals were passed intelligence by a retired garda according to the paper.
He was detained under a special order, called a section 42 warrant, that allows a person in prison to be arrested.
The "Monk" is currently in Wheatfield on remand. He's due to stand trial next week for the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in 2016.
