Gerry Hutch's trial resumed before the non-jury Special Criminal Court today.
He's accused of murdering David Byrne, who was shot dead when armed men stormed a boxing event at the Regency Hotel in Dublin in February 2016.
The trial, which had moved to an alternative courtroom to accommodate Jonathan Dowdall’s testimony, has returned to its original home.
Before it broke up for Christmas, the judges were told there were roughly three weeks left to go but they were told today it could be finished in two.
The prosecuting barrister, Sean Gillane SC, then apologised for what he described as a 'false start'.
He said a Garda witness he intends to call isn't available today and he also told the court that a 'curious development' had arisen which required further evidence to be disclosed to the defence. He said it primarily concerned Gerry Hutch.
The prosecution was only in a position to recall three witnesses before the trial finished up for the day but Mr Gillane assured the court it wouldn’t cost time overall.
The recalled witnesses were gardai who were asked to confirm certain parts of their evidence.
And we're back... Gerry Hutch's trial for the murder of David Byrne at the Regency Hotel in Feb 2016 has resumed. There's approx two weeks left in the trial.
