Gerry 'The Monk' Hutch has been arrested in Lanzarote as part of an international investigation into suspected money-laundering.
It followed a joint operation by Gardaí and Spanish police yesterday.
Ten searches were carried out in Spain as part of the investigation targeting the Hutch organised crime group.
It's suspected the gang is involved in money laundering across a number of jurisdictions.
A home in Clontarf in Dublin, belonging to Gerry Hutch, was also raided after a request from Spanish authorities.
The Irish Times reports the 61 year-old was arrested in Lanzarote as part of the operation, and was one of a number of people detained.
It follows a two-year investigation into Hutch organised crime gang.
