Gay Byrne's daughter says she doesn't think her dad would have had an issue with Mr. Tayto paying the late broadcaster his respects.
Following the 85-year-old's death on Monday, the crisp company tweeted a computer generated image of its mascot looking upset.
The post, which read "rest in peace Gay", was deleted following complaints it was distasteful.
However, Crona Byrne says she didn't have an issue with it, and doesn't think her dad would either.
Replying to an online discussion about the post, Crona said:
"I certainly don't have an issue with the post from Mr Tayto and I certainly don't think that dad would have had either!!"
