Four men have been arrested by Gardaí investigating the supply of drugs to prisons in west Dublin.

Gardaí from Ronanstown Garda Station became aware of an attempt to carry out a drone delivery to a prison yesterday.

They subsequently searched a home in west Dublin, during which a drone and number of electronic devices were seized.

Follow-up searches were carried in south-west Dublin, where a vehicle was also seized.

Four men, ranging in age from their late teens to their 40s, have been arrested.

They since been released without charge, and investigations are continuing.

A statement from a Garda spokesperson says: "Four adult males, aged in their late teens, 20s, 30s and 40s, were arrested and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Garda Stations in the Dublin Region.

"All four males have since been released without charge. A file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.

"Investigations are ongoing."

It is understood this is part of a local initiative under Operation Tara, targeting the supply of drugs into Wheatfield and Cloverhill Prisons.
