A swimming club in Dublin is allowing women to become members for the first time.
Councillors called for the Government to review the operating licence for the club last October.
The Sandycove Bathers Association has agreed to accept women members into its club at the 40 foot.
Until the 70s, the 40 foot was a male only swimming area, however two huts owned by the association, one for changing and one with kitchen facilities were not available to woman.
Following a recent meeting the club has decided that woman can become full members this year.
It was helped by low level campaigning and a new bathing shelter erected by Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Co Council.
