Cyberflashing will soon become a criminal offence, under new plans before Cabinet this morning.
It's part of changes being brought by Minister Catherine Martin through amendments to the Online Safety Bill.
If approved, it will see social media companies facing multi-million euro fines if they fail to remove unsolicited sexual images.
It will give the new Online Safety Commissioner the power to issue takedown orders to tech companies for videos and images of people flashing.
Persistent non-compliance could lead to a €20 million fine or 10 per cent of turnover, whichever is larger.
The new Commission will also be tasked with developing codes for broadcasters to promote gender balance in current affairs content.
They will also aim to ensure more songs by women are played on radio.
Such codes could include a requirement for radio stations to publish gender logs for current affairs and music content, but will ultimately be decided by the new Commissioner.
