North Dublin councillors have voted to ask women how best to make public spaces in the area safe.
Fingal Mayor Seána Ó Rodaigh says listening to women’s lived experience regarding the factors that make them feel safe and unsafe in the public realm can inform future planning and development.
Her motion, which got unanimous support at a council meeting yesterday evening, comes on the back of a number of attacks on women in public areas.
The meeting heard the initiative could also be adopted elsewhere.
The consultation will also consider children's safety.
The council's joint policing committee is now expected to develop the idea before it's put out to the public.
