Homeless charities are warning there may be a surge in homelessness when some covid-19 measures are lifted.
For four months in a row, the number of people in emergency accommodation has fallen.
8,876 were homeless last month, which marks a drop of 459 on April's Department of Housing figures.
It's the first time since 2017 the number of people in emergency accommodation has dropped below 9,000.
Wayne Stanley is Head of Communications with the Simon Communities.
He says the figures may shoot up when the ban on evictions and rent increases expires;
"We should be able to identify who a lot of those people are and make sure we can target preventive services, supports in housing supports and financial supports towards them to ensure we don't see a wave of homelessness as we lift the restrictions of covid."
