Fake Drug Posters Erected in Dublin

Dublin City Council is removing posters that have appeared across the the city claiming drugs can be used in certain areas.

The posters with fake Dublin City Council and Government logos claim heroin and crack can be taken in designated zones.

Two artists are behind the posters to prompt debate about drug use in the city.

But Sinn Fein councillor Daithi Doolan thinks it's not the right way to go about it.

''I fully understand people's frustration around the drugs crisis in Dublin and they are frustrated that they feel marginalised forgotten or unheard. But I take a different view. I don't think we need to put up posters that don't have facts on them and make claims that are untrue.''

Artist Spicebag says the aim is to raise awareness for the need for drug reform especially in the realm of harm reduction, and safe injection centres, and adds that using a shocking poster might start a "much needed conversation".
