Taoiseach Leo Varadkar says next week's budget will deliver at least an extra one thousand euro to workers.
Although the final details of Budget 2024 are still being negotiated, the Taoiseach says he wants to ensure 'work' is rewarded and people 'keep money in their pockets'.
He told the Irish Independent a 'generous' tax package on Tuesday will include cuts to income tax and USC.
Earlier this year, a number of Fine Gael Ministers insisted they wanted tax cuts amounting to €1000 for lower and middle income earners.
Leo Varadkar told the Irish Independent that those exact cuts won't happen, but workers will feel the same financial relief through a mix of tax cuts and one-off payments.
He also told the paper the cost-of-living measures included in the planned package would kick in 'before and after Christmas'.
Meanwhile, Labour's Educations Spokesperson, Aodhán Ó Riordáin, says tax cuts are not necessary, and they are not the way forward.
“You need to make a choice and the choice for us is making childcare affordable, delivering on housing, delivering on education, delivering on services.”
Yesterday, Labour unveiled their calls for Budget 2024, including a €1.6 billion in housing as part of a €3 billion cost of living package.
In its alternative budget, the party would cap childcare fees at €200 a month and provide help for disadvantaged schools.
The full contents of Budget 2024 will be revealed on Tuesday, October 10th.
