Efforts are underway to repatriate 15 Irish citizens in Afghanistan after the Taliban took control of the country.

Footage shows chaotic scenes of frightened Afghans and foreign nationals attempting to flee.

Change is already visible on the streets of Afghanistan, after Taliban fighters took over Kabul overnight, virtually unopposed.

Men who would have worn jeans and tshirts have changed into traditional clothing while women are no where to seen.

Sky's Stuart Ramsey is in Kabul and says Afghan women are fearful.

Footage at Kabul airport shows people climbing structures attempting to board evacuation flights and even holding onto a US Air Force plane as it takes off.

It's reported 5 people have died at the airport, possibly in stampedes.

Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney says the panic at the Taliban take over is understandable.

A Taliban official claims civilians won't be harmed but Minister Coveney has dismissed this, saying scenes of brutality are likely.
