Graham Dwyer’s wife has told his murder trial that he wrote to her last year telling her not to believe Gardai.
Gemma Dwyer was called to give evidence for the prosecution who alleges her husband murdered Elaine O’Hara in the Dublin Mountains in 2012.
She said she’d no recollection of Aug 22nd 2012, the day Elaine O’Hara was allegedly murdered but did remember Sept 13th 2013, the day her bones were found, because she was celebrating a joint birthday that evening with her husband.
She talked about a spade she couldn’t find in their garden during the summer of 2013.
A picture of a spade found at Kilakee Mountain where Elaine’s remains were found was then shown to her and she confirmed it was the same one.
She also spoke about a letter she received from her husband this time last year which urges her not to believe the Gardai.
It reads:“They actually have no evidence except my name and someone else’s phone number in that awful girl’s diary”.
He writes about knowing Elaine but says he was helping her and even saved her life once.
He claims she died by suicide and mentions a man who helped dispose of some embarrassing things on her behalf. “The man likes Real Madrid and wears pink underwear”, it reads.
Gemma Dwyer was briefly cross-examined by her husband’s defence team before stepping down from the stand after giving evidence for just under an hour.
