After years of restoration work, the Dún Laoghaire Baths in south Dublin are to reopen in just over a week's time.

The refurbishment project includes a walk linking Sandycove to the East Pier, a 35-metre jetty into the sea and work on the Pavilion building to create a cafe and gallery space.

While future development could see a seawater pool added.

The baths date back to 1843 but were closed in 1997 and have been derelict for over 20 years.

Work to restore the historic site along the seafront has been ongoing since 2018 but it's set to reopen on December 13th.

Fine Gael councillor Mary Fayne says that originally there were two swimming pools with a diving board and slide;

"It's actually a lovely old Victorian building, it's been derelict probably for far too long. It's very important because its right on the seafront there with the old Dun Laoghaire beach beside it so there's a lovely walkway from there over to the East Pier."
