Dublin taxi driver, Raymond Shorten has been jailed for 13 years for raping a seven-year-old girl over a decade ago.

The 50-year-old, of Melrose Crescent in Clondalkin, is also awaiting sentence for raping two female passengers in his taxi in 2022.

In May, Raymond Shorten was found guilty of raping the girl on two separate occasions when she was 7 or 8 years old.

He was also convicted of sexually assaulting her in his car.

Shorten, who was in his late 30s at the time, knew her family, and the jury heard distressing details of how he first raped her after her mother’s funeral.

In terms of sentencing the father-of-seven, the judge said there was very little to mitigate his wrongdoing.

He said he abused her when he knew she was very vulnerable and he couldn’t have cared less about the long-term pain and suffering he was inflicting on her.

In a separate case last month, a jury found him guilty of raping two female passengers in the back of his taxi on dates in 2022, and he was due to be sentenced for that today too, but it has been adjourned until Thursday to give the judge time to consider the sentence handed down by his colleague this morning.
