A Dublin city councillor says the take-away drinks service some pubs are offering has become out of hand.

Mannix Flynn says large groups of people were gathered outside certain bars and drinking on the streets in the south east area of the city over the weekend.

One pub has been forced to deny it was adding to the problem after being criticised online.

In a statement Grogan's on South William Street says it's been closed since mid March and is not selling take-away drinks.

Councillor Flynn says some bars are flouting the rules and causing issues for local residents;

"Some of them are shut because they respect the general consensus of people but there are certain public houses and cafes that have a complete disregard."

Pubs that serve food will be allowed to reopen from next Monday, June 29th. However all other bars will have to wait until July 20th.
