Dublin city council is to re-open playgrounds from today, subject to inspections.

However their use will be at parents' own risk as they won't be supervised and there won't be a cleaning regime in place.

In a statement the local authority said the decision was taken to reopen the facilities after the council got clarification regarding last week’s Government announcement.

On Friday the Taoiseach announced playgrounds would start operating again from Monday under phase two of the roadmap for easing coranavirus restrictions.

Leo Varadkar said they would need to be supervised but DCC doesn't operate supervised playgrounds.

In the Dun Laoghaire Rathdown area, the council says playgrounds in all dlr Parks will be reopening over the course of the week starting June 8th but only after a period of assessment and inspection checks on all equipment.

Parents and guardians will be expected to supervise their children in line with existing physical distancing and hygiene guidelines.
