A man, originally from Dublin, has died following an assault in Boston.
46 year old Barry Whelan had been working as a carpenter in a suburb of Boston.
According to police he was standing near an ATM in Downtown Boston on St Patrick's Day when he received a blow to the head..
He was placed on life support but has since passed away.
Officials have ruled he died from blunt force trauma and have ruled the case a homicide.
His boss, John Marsoobian told Boston 25 News, Barry had just wanted to go out and mark St Patrick's Day
He described him as a gentle soul who worked very hard.
A visitation will take place in Boston this afternoon for people to pay tribute.
His mother still lives in Dublin while his brother who lives in Spain, is travelling to Boston.
