A father from Dublin has been sentenced to 20 weeks in prison at Minshull Street Crown Court today for racially abusing ex-Manchester United striker Andy Cole.
28 year old Lee Byrne of Corduff Park in Blanchardstown was drunk when he called Cole “Mr black man” and a “spook” while on an Air Lingus flight from Dublin to Manchester on the 29th of December last year.
He was also handed a 20 week sentence for being drunk on a plane, which will run concurrently. He pleaded guilty to both charges.
Fellow Dubliner, 26 year old Gregory Horan of Sycamore View in Castleknock, will serve 10 weeks in prison for being drunk on a plane, which he admitted to, but was not accused of abusing Cole.
Both Byrne and Horan were travelling to a stag do when the incident occurred.
