A Dublin man accused of killing his mother and burying her dismembered body on an Edinburgh hill has pleaded not guilty.

39 year old James Dunleavy entered the plea on his first appearance in open court in Scotland today.

The body of 66 year old Philomena Dunleavy from Marino was found in a shallow grave in Edinburgh back in May.

A cyclist stumbled upon her remains at a secluded nature reserve.

Her body had been dismembered and was decomposed to such an extent that police didn’t know what age or gender it was.

Following her eventual identification, her son James Dunleavy was arrested and charged with murdering his mother.

The 39-year-old, who also goes by the name Seamus, made a brief appearance before the High Court in Edinburgh today.

The charge alleges that sometime between April 30th and May 7th, he attacked and killed his mother and tried to cover up her death.

He pleaded not guilty and is due to stand trial in January.
