One of four Dublin men on trial for a tiger kidnapping worth €2.28m has been found not guilty.

Alan Costello of Cromcastle Road, Coolock was accused of being the driver for an armed gang who held a family hostage eight years ago.

Paul Richardson's wife and two sons were held captive in the Dublin Mountains after an armed gang took them from their home in Raheny on the evening of March 14th 2005.

For fear his family would be killed, the Securicor worker dropped almost €2.3m outside a pub near Lucan during his rounds the following day.

Alan Costello joined Jason Kavanagh from Blanchardstown, Christopher Corcoran from Sutton, and fellow Coolock native Mark Farrelly in the dock for what's already been a 45 day trial but was today acquitted of all charges.

He was accused of being the driver on the night in question but after 10 hours of deliberations, the jury found him not guilty on all charges.

He's now a free man while the jurors have been asked to continue their deliberations in relation to the remaining three accused.
