A proposal to add a public lido at George’s Dock in Dublin is a step closer.
A voluntary group has released updated designs and images for an outdoor swimming pool at the old dry dock near the Custom House, that was previously earmarked for a controversial white-water rafting facility.
The 50 metre heated pool would sit alongside a sauna, plunge pool, changing facilities, water gardens and cafe in the unused space.
The Dublin City Lido campaign says it hopes to bring a feasibility study to city council management in the New Year in the hopes of getting the plan off the ground.
The council announced plans for a public lido and emergency services training centre at the site in 2022, however the proposal has yet to be progressed.
Swim Ireland is backing the campaign. The organisation's Chief Executive Officer is Sarah Keane;
"We recognise DCC’s existing commitment to sporting infrastructure and indeed swimming pools and we would urge them to support the call by the Dublin City Lido campaign for a feasibility study to consider the practical aspects of a Lido in Dublin City and to support reasoned decision making."
