Dublin's been 'going backwards' for decades when it comes to the availability of arts and culture spaces.
That's according to the Director of the Dublin Arts Festival.
It follows reports of developers opposing a proposal that would see 5 per cent of major new projects being reserved for community, arts and culture and artist workspaces.
They believe it will lead to an 'over-proliferation' of such spaces in the future.
The proposal comes on the back of the loss of a number of the capital's cultural venues. While redevelopment plans for traditional Irish music bar, the Cobblestone in Smithfield, has prompted a number of protests.
Dublin Arts Festival director and member of the council's Arts, Culture and Recreation Strategic Policy Committee, Willie White, says there has been a lack of development for decades;
"Barring Temple Bar there's been very little development in the last hundred years. We have fewer seats in Dublin for theatre than when I started out."
