A Dublin based domestic abuse support service is today launching a 24-hour freephone helpline.
Aoibhneas supported 1,111 women and children in 2020, according to it's annual report. 281 women and children were provided with crisis accommodation.
A fifth of clients presented to refuge with physical injuries. The organisation says outreach and community support increased by 18 per cent last year.
Aoibhneas provided 36,809 interventions to women, they included therapeutic group sessions, psychoeducational sessions and parenting support sessions.
While children were provided with 3,999 interventions including one to one emotional support sessions, play and art therapy, homework club and literacy classes) to children.
Melanie Farrell, Chairperson of Aoibhneas commented: “Today is a significant day for Aoibhneas as we officially launch our 24-hour freephone helpline which will ensure women have access to our supports without barriers. Community support is a critical lifeline for women and children experiencing domestic abuse and access to a 24-hour freephone helpline is a further step in our commitment to maintaining visibility and availability in the community.
The 24-hour helpline is now available free of charge on 1800 - 767 - 767.
