Dublin City Council will meet with other stakeholders this week to decide if any addtional measures are needed, in the wake of the crowded scenes in the city over the weekend.

The issue has thrown the country's preparedness for an 'outdoor summer' into the spotlight, ahead of the Bank Holiday weekend.

It's raised questions over the facilties available to the public when eating and drinking outdoors.

The events on South William Streets also prompted Tanaiste Leo Varadkar to warn of local lockdowns in the event of covid outbreaks.

Dublin City Council says it will be engaging with a number of other city stakeholders this week to discuss the issues around large unplanned public gatherings in the city-centre over the past weekend.

The authority says the outcome of these meetings and what, if any, extra measures should be taken by the City Council will be announced in due course.

Dublin City Council says it's keen to play its part in keeping all the citizens of Dublin safe and would like to remind the public that gatherings of the size and nature seen over the weekend are contrary to public health regulations: "We encourage all citizens and businesses to act in a responsible manner and adhere to public health regulations."
