Driver Distraction Causes Fifth Of Crashes

Up to one in five road accidents are caused by 'driver distractions' like mobiles, Sat Navs or children.

That's according to research which will be presented at a Road Safety Authority conference in Dublin today.

International figures show that drivers are four times more likely to crash if they are using a phone while behind the wheel.

Professor John Lee of the University of Wisconsin says that danger is amplified among younger drivers.
