A suspected arson attack in Drimnagh last night caused damage to a football pitch used by St John Bosco FC.
Residents said they'd been concerned about a stack of plastic fencing left by a contractor -- and last night it was torched.
Part of the Benmadigan pitch was left scorched and strewn with debris.
Local Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan said the fire was an attack on the whole community.
"It's a football pitch in an area that needs football pitches, has a really proud history of soccer. It's Bosco's pitch, and [what's unacceptable] is when you see people come along and try to just torch it."
"My appeal to them is this: if you're involved in this behaviour, stop, think and desist from what you're doing. You're attacking the whole community. You're attacking the young people playing football, the parents involved, and your neighbours," he said.
