Animal charity My Lovely Horse Rescue says it was alerted to videos being shared on social media of the abuse.

And its a good night from this very sweet donkey...he’ll NEVER be dragged along the streets again, whipped, beaten,...

He was found near Liffey Valley on Sunday and was taken into care with the help of gardaí.

Co-Founder of My Lovely Horse Rescue, Martina Kenny, says the donkey, named Mac, is making a recovery:

"He was sold a couple of times, it was just heartbreaking."

"To see him being whipped up the road, and being made fun of, and raffled it was just the lowest type of cruelty."
