Drinks company, Diageo, is to move some of its beer and ale production away from its famous St James's Gate facility in Dublin 8.
The firm behind Guinness is to open a new €200 million carbon-neutral brewery in Kildare, that will become operational in 2024.
The site in Newbridge will support 50 new jobs.
However, Guinness production will remain at the iconic Dublin site, allowing it to produce more stout for global markets.
Business journalist Joe Lynam says the new plant will be more environmentally friendly;
"All of the energy used will come from renewable sources, whether that's wind or wave or solar or whatever it is, and they're going to minimise the use of energy and water consumption as well."
